On Friday 12/30/2022 at about 3PM Kent Fire Department was dispatched to a single car motor vehicle accident with entrapment on Route 301 in the area of the Canopus lake boat launch.

Fire and EMS units responded within minutes, Upon arrival crews located the vehicle off the roadway down a steep embankment. The single occupant in the vehicle was heavily entrapped with serious injuries. A medevac helicopter was requested to the scene. Unfortunately, the operator succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased on the scene.

3 firefighters received minor injuries while attempting to free the trapped occupant, they were transported to Putnam hospital and later released.
